"Don't agitate the media any more. It's not helping you."

The media scum are just coming out of the woodwork because they eat this garbage up, they practically stalk him. If Jack provided any fire whatsoever, the media seems to have plenty of gasoline to keep it roaring as long as it makes them money. I find it funny that it's always the fault of the person in the media for a media frenzy when it's the media that are the ones with the personal financial stake in any sensation.

In a way I think Jack did allow himself to fall into the media trap by providing enough information for them to twist and contort, but the fault of that lies with the media themselves. If they thought they wouldn't benefit from latching on to a story like this they would have never even bothered printing any of that shit and there would be a hell of a lot less hysteria.

I believe in freedom of the press, but only when they print things responsibly instead of acting like huge conglomerate tabloid rags using yellow journalism to manipulate the truth to their own selfish ends. True journalism died when news became a for-profit operation. Because now the 'truth' that is printed is the 'truth' paid for by the ones with the deepest pockets. That usually means that the point of the view of the story reflects that of the advertisers.

Of course I guess that goes even without saying, because it is part of a greater corruption of the truth in our society on all levels. Our mores are set by those with the most money and most power. If the vast majority of the people with money and power liked having sex with kids, you can bet this topic would be a hell of a lot different. We'd be watching TV shows like "Are You Hotter Than a 5th Grader?"!

Of course that would be the other extreme.. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.
