Attention from the AG-attentionater :)

Adolescents have a strange relationship to attention.

I recall that as a teen boy I craved attention except where I didn't want any.

On the one hand, I could be a little louder than I needed to in the hope that the girls I crushed-on would overhear me being "cool." ( I was NEVER cool at that age ) On the other hand I was very self-conscious; as if the eyes of all were judging me.

"Are they looking at me? Will they notice me noticing that I'm being noticed? Damn, I've got a woody. How do I rearrange it before I have to stand up to leave class?"

I was so affected in trying to act unaffected. And it wasn't until later when the hormone soup began to drain that it dawned on me that ( A ) others really do have their own lives to think about, and ( B ) maybe they're too self-conscious to be conscious of me being self-conscious.

You couldn't pay me to go back to THAT, even with all the cute girls around me.
