contrary to popular belief, in intergenerational relationships, the older person is much more likely to be hurt than the younger person.

..altho, to be fair, the younger person can be and sometimes is (badly) hurt as a consequence of heavy handed intervention from 'concerned' onlookers.

i've seen this from the perspective of the younger person and the older person. as the younger, i was abused and victimized by moralizing homophobes, as the elder i had to stand by and watch as a much loved child friend was cross examined and suddenly informed her adult friend was no good and she wasn't to see him anymore. thankfully the latter situation has resolved in goodwill and friendship on all sides.

but i'm also familiar with a case where a much loved paedophile cub master committed suicide following accusations and criminal charges. the affect of this incident on the boys who loved and admired him was out of any proportion to any harm his own actions (some nude swimming) could ever have caused any of those kids.

but yeah. i've been hurt often enuf. its not easy being hated for loving, or having to keep a broken heart a closely guarded secret.
