Alpha male or beta male?

Hey, what do most guys here consider themselves to be, a beta male or alpha male?
If any female posters want to answer the same question, substitute female for male, feel free.

Myself, I've been refered to a few times as a beta male, and while from what I've heard of the two terms, I kinda agree. But I'd be interested in knowing where the origin of these labels comes from.
