Apparently, in biology there are three types named - alpha (the dominant critter in a group), beta (contenders), and omega (those who are subservient to all others in the group).

Gives new meaning to the Biblical description of Jesus as the Alpha and Omega. ;-)

Anyways, that article also notes that alpha and beta are often confused with Type A and Type B personalities ⚠️ ↗, which are actually a bit different, and relate more to levels of stress and anger, which may sometimes correlate to "success". The theory relating to these personality types has apparently been mostly rejected in recent years.

In any case, I would consider myself a Gamma male (my own coinage, for someone not terribly interested in all that hierarchy stuff, but not interested in being subservient either), or a Type B personality.
