As I mentioned previously I have been wanting to do a Post on interesting AG characters in Lesser Known or Obscure Movies for quite some time know. Since thier is a lot of ground to cover I have decided to do several different Posts on the topic, this will be Part 1, I will probably Post Part 2 some time in the near future. The movies below are AFAIK less well known (unless your a B-Movie and Cheesy Movie lover like me) and I thought that the Board's AG lovers may appreciate some information on movies featuring interesting AG characters that they may never have heard of. Please note that not all of these characters are played by Teenage Actresses, some are played by Girls in thier early 20s but in these cases I have only selected movies where I thought that the Adult Actress looked and played the part convincingly. Please also note that I am not trying to write in depth reviews here for that please go to Amazon or IMDB or some other venue. Here Goes....

TRICK OR TREAT (1986)

BACKGROUND: This is a Heavy Metal Themed Horror Movie about a Controversial Metal Muscician named Sammi Curr who is killed in a Hotel Fire but whose spirit tries to seek revenge on those who have wronged him by communicating with a male adolescent loner named Eddie Weinbauer (they are able to communicate when Eddie play the Album Backwards, remember the PMRC crusade, until Sammi's spirit becomes so powerful that this is no longer necessary.

AG CHARACTER: Leslie Graham (played by Lisa Orgolini) is a beautiful and popular High School Girl who becomes Eddie's love interest. She develops an interest in him despite him being a school reject who is constanly being bullied and tormented by the school Jocks. She is gorgeous, smart, conscientious and brave (she rescues Eddie from drowning and actively intervenes to stop the Macho Boys from Bullying him) she is the complete anti-thesis to the Mall Brat or Drama Queen Teenage Girls that one can see in some Teen Movies.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: This movie is a must see for Heavy Metal Fans, it features great music by Fastway and has cameo appearances by Gene Simmons as a Radio DJ and Ozzy Osbourne...as a Fundamentalist Christian Preacher!

ALIEN AGENT (2007)

BACKGROUND: This is a B-Movie about alien forces trying to invade and take over the Earth, the planet's hope rests in an intergalactic Law Man and a 15 year old human girl he has befriended...Yep one of those types of movies.

AG CHARACTER: Julie (played by Emma Lahana) is a 15 year old orphan who becomes involved in the struggle to stop malevolent alien forces who are trying to stage an invasion of the Earth. She is adorably cute, very girlish, feminine, playful, gentle natured AND...intelligent, brave and resourceful.

WARNING: The Julie character IMHO is the only good thing about this movie (but she's a VERY good thing) other than that this movie is TOTAL CRAP and that is a comment coming from someone who usually likes Cheesy Movies. There is some pretty good martial arts scenes though for those of you who like that stuff.

GIRLS CAN'T SWIM (AKA LES FILLES NE SAVENT PAS NAGER)

BACKGROUND: A French Adolescent Coming of Age Movie featuring 2 French Girls on summer holiday together in a French Coastal Town. The movie deals with thier tensions as friends thier problems in life (alcoholic Dads, dead parents..etc) and...their emerging sexuality and discovery of Boys.

AG CHARACTERS: 15 year old GWEN (played by Isild Le Besco) is quite the cutie and is the open, experimental and extroverted type of girl who tends to get lots of attention from the Town boys (she can also be a bit bratty at times). 15 year old Lise (played by Karen Alyx) is the more introverted type (though burning with repressed passion on the inside).

WARNING: French movies are an acquired taste and may be difficult for some of you to watch. Also this movie can be quite depressing at times, it is not at all like Clueless or American Pie or those types of movies, this movie takes a hard dramatic look at the perils of Adolescence. Also AFAIK it is only available in French or with English subtitles so that may be a problem for the Board's Non-Francophones who can't stand subtitles.

MACROSS: DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE?

BACKGROUND: This is an animated movie version of the classic anime TV series SUPER DIMENSION FORTRESS MACROSS (this was adapted to be part of ROBOTECH (ex. MACROSS SAGA)). The story in the movie is a bit different than the show: Humanity is caught in the crossfire of a civil war between two Zentradi Factions: the Male Zentrans and the Female Metlandi. Humanity fights back with thier MACROSS battlefortress, transformable Valkyrie space fighters and Psychological warfare (broadcasting songs performed by a Teenage Pop Star)

AG CHARACTER: Lynn Minmay is a sweet, beautiful Teen Pop Sensation whose songs (voiced by Mari Iijima) keep the Macross crew and civilians in high spirits and later inspire many Zentradi to abandon thier militaristic ways and seek to learn from the richness of Earth's culture. She is also part of a love triangle between Ace Pilot Hikaru Ichijo and Lieutenant Misa Hayase. Note that while her character in the movie is very likeable...her character in the TV show can be quite annoying at times...and is positively unbearable in the kiddified ROBOTECH: MACROSS SAGA.

WARNINGS: 1) The English Dub for this movie is horrible, a subtitled version was released in Europe a while back but it is very hard to find. 2) Before showing this movie to kids (it's a cartoon) be forwarned that this movie contains nudity and graphic violence, there is a kid friendly version of this movie entitled CLASH OF THE BIONOIDS but it has over 40 minutes of footage deleted and IMHO is not very watchable. The TV show SDF MACROSS (which in contrast has an excellent english dub) also contains grpahic violence and nudity but a kid friendly version of that show exists known as ROBOTECH: MACROSS SAGA (Though the dub is inferior and the music quite different).

Well that's all for now I will try to have Part 2 up soon enough.
