Regarding tracking devices

I've often wondered why we microchip our pets but not our kids. I wonder if anyone agrees or is it just too big brotherish? When I rescued one of my cats they had microchipped her at the shelter in case she ever wanders off and is found they can find me by the info on the chip inside her body. Now with all this GPS technology, why can't we chip our babies, then if they wander off, get kidnapped or something we can track them. It would have to be an emergency of course but how many lives would be saved? Wouldn't it be a deterrent to kidnappers? I don't know it just seems that our kids are so precious, it seems we should do anything to keep them safe.

I've never really talked to anybody about this and am curious as to what people think...
