1. You should not have made your daughter your go-between. This is putting her in a very awkward position. You should apologize to her for asking her to be your go-between.

2. Save the necklace, and maybe in a few years time you can give it back to Emma yourself, once she is legal, and let her know how much she meant to you.

3. Your daughter may have had a good opportunity to pass on the package, but chose not to, because she felt so awkward in that position. Besides the question of the age-difference between yourself and Emma, there is also the fact that she is your daughter, and will feel awkward being involved in any way in the romantic inclinations of her father. Besides this, she may feel neglected as you overlook her (from her perspective) to show interest in her friend.

4. Yes, it's quite sad that girls try to appear older to appeal to us.
