Yes, you should be careful. However, it would be great to be on the parent's good side. That way they can see that you are a sincere person and they can trust you with their daughter. That way, if the relationship is non-sexual, you should be fine.

As for the kissing aspect of it, kissing a minor in the US is not illegal from what I know. However, it seems that french kissing a minor under 13 years of age was recently made illegal in the state of Virginia. It seems that more freedom is being taken away from us every year. :(
