### Well, there's many different opinions floating around about these issues. It's hard to say about the overpopulation thing with any absolute certainly, as I'm not exactly any authority in the subject (and probably noone else is here either), but it is plain to see that so many different species of animals are being tragically driven into extinction by people at an escalating speed, not to mention all the pollution and toxin filled rivers we have to cope with. We are even dead scared what food and water we put in our mouths every day, and we never know when radioactive chocolate will be on tomorrow's menu. It's like playing Russian roulette.
"I won't question that environmental degradation is happening - but I would question that environmentalism is focusing in what is actually worst."
### Yes, I do agree with this. On one hand there's environmental scare mongers that try and convince us that global warming is occurring (this is happening right at a time when average temperatures in my country seem to be FALLING rather than heating); conversely, some pseudo-environmentalists focus on ludicrous trivial things too. I think that "environmentalism" has become very corrupt in many corners and has gradually turned into a profiteering industry--more about making big bucks than to do with addressing genuine and more plausible environmental issues. In my country we can actually get heavily fined just for taking a piece of driftwood off a beach. It's become ridiculous.
"But I don't think humankind, on average, is either greedier or consumerister than it used to be..."
### I concur again, but a highly technological and mega-manufacturing world that is now actually able to provide for the demand of the masses is the thing that is partly causing the problems.
