I don't have a link handy, but there was a post on GC that linked to a story about a guy in Canada who had a Japanese doll sent to him. It was seized by customs, the police were notified, and there was a story in a paper about it. But there was no follow-up story. It seemed as if the Canadian customs people didn't know what to make of it, and neither did the police, so the guy was humiliated, his doll was taken, but no law was broken.
I'd really like to know the legal status about dolls.
I can't find the place you are talking about, but when I did see a japanese doll of a "short woman", which was probably the same doll that the Canadian bought, it cost about 200 bucks and was the quality of a beach ball. It's not like the Japanese are producing quality dolls like Real Doll. There have been times in my life when I would buy one, if it was of good quality.
But my point is I'd like to know if there is any law against owning a japanese doll ... or seeing one ... or knowing they exist, etc.
