Indiscriminate vs age discriminated prohibtion.
Posted by Goethe on 2008-September-24 05:05:26 EDT, WednesdayWhereas, the category of those whom tend to want indiscriminate prohibition of certain things (irregardless of what numerical age of person(s) involved in the activity) tend to often have far less hysterical and vindictive attitudes, and also tend to be a lot more level headed about the way they go about doing things.
Has anyone also noticed this prevalently different tendency between both categories of prohibitionist? I have noticed that in countries/cultures where prostitution, gambling or drinking is exclusively permitted to those whom are 18 and over (Satan's number) that their position is of a FAR more punitive one towards under 18 activity than those prohibitionists of the age-indiscriminate kind. Cultures whom prohibit these kind of activities broad sweep right across the board (and so therefore automatically abrogating all factor of age discrimination) often tend to have a far more mild attitude towards these things when a law is broken.
I'm not one for prohibition of anything people choose to do with their own lives, but I'd MUCH rather have broad-sweep type prohibition ANY DAY than the age discriminate prohibitions that is seen in the contemporary Western world. I'd MUCH rather have to endure the broad sweep laws against prostitution seen in the Middle East than have to tolerate the ridiculous discriminatory double standards of the over 18 = legal prostitution laws seen in the contemporary West and it's sycophantic South East Asian monkey-see, monkey-do countries. Not only is it totally discriminatory to have dogmatic age laws, but these very age laws themselves also require extremely burgeoning and costly law enforcement to control it. I'd much rather see a return of the old 18th Amendment liquor prohibition of the 1920's and 30's in the U.S than today's arbitrarily rigid age 21 and over laws. Having to be 21 just to have a few sips of beer is so fucking ludicrous that I'd much rather just see a return of the old Volstead laws and be done with it.
