As for why, neither the need to "share," nor the desire to "hide nothing" from loved ones are sufficient reasons. While both feelings are natural, they can lead to rash behavior which can't be retracted.
With one exception, I have only told people whose opinion on the topic I knew so well that I could've scripted their responses.
Anyone who was abused may have a very negative opinion. Has he made it clear that he thinks that Abusers are abusers and that Peds are ChildLovers, or does he conflate the two notions.
Many people have a stake in compounding the two disparities and turn hostile towards anything which challenges them.
The easiest convos I've had were the ones which naturally turned towards the positive.
My AGF joking that her 20something boyfriend might be a Pedophile, "Well, actually...."
Or my father after having talked with me about some Moeru Anime series ( Yes, Dante corrupted his father by introducing him to the stuff at the dawn of the translation boom in the 80s ) mentioned the PNVD positively and asked if I'd heard of them. "Heard of the PNVD, heck, I've posted back 'n' forth with Norbert."
