Lazy and Ambitious

I think the root of the problem is that western civilization is lazy. Instead of taking action when something does not make sense, they prefer to relax and wait for someone else to take care of it.

Another problem which varies from country to country are unrealistic expectations. Some legislator will declare that their intention is to stop X or eliminate Y. We know full well that such laws can do neither completely. But in their effort to wage a "war" on X and Y they will usually overshoot their target and begin to go after legal behavior or start profiling people on the basis of nipping the "problem" in the bud; ie: criminalizing legal behavior on the grounds that it may lead to or facilitate illegal behavior.

Given the widespread willingness to legislate anything they don't like out of existence even when it can't and shouldn't be eliminated, I could go for a few more "lazy" legislators.
