I agree that there are some references to corporal punishment, which make me a little uneasy. But there are also many tender and romantic descriptions of his relationships with little girls. Taken as a whole, the writings give an interesting insight into Victorian life. Possibly the corporal punishment thing is a result of his English public school background, or maybe just an excuse to see some plump bare flesh.
