Compulsory, standardised education has been the most important tool in the diminishing of rights and capabilities of minors, and of age based segregationism. This is not to deny the need of education. Only to deny that education as we currently know it is, on balance, a positive thing. Unfortunately, in most countries, homeschooling and alternate schooling is rare or even not allowed.
