Re: I respectfully disagree

I don't think the line was funny at all; I think is was stupid and ill-considered. I didn't laugh at it at all and it made me wince rather than smile, and I think that I have a very good sense of humor. I don't think avoiding baiting our enemies with comments like that is "giving the antis power over us." I think it's undermining the antis by being respectful to young people and NOT acting like the type of stereotypes that they try to depict us as being. Acting like frat house boys is NOT doing us this community any favors, and it plays right into the hands of the antis in their endeavors to eliminate us from the online world. I want to participate on a public board that makes it clear that Oprah and her ilk are liars, not appear to validate the things they say about us.

If we give the antis "evidence" that we are "grooming" young people here in the same way that they claim that we do, or if we give them and the public the impression that we are giving each other advice on how to lure kids into sexual encounters with us in brazen defiance of the law (as Hierophant's old comment 'humorously' suggested) then we are giving them ammunition in their unceasing efforts to spread lies about us and to make us seem like a bunch of perverted monsters who do not care about the law or the kids that we love. Kero did a very wise and responsible thing in changing kratt's line. If this board ever devolves into the type of place that presents a negative image of GL to the general public and makes the antis' job easier then not only will I cease posting here but I will publicly denounce this place in the same way that I denounce those ultra-sleazy GL channels on IRC.
