Obama and mixed metaphors
Posted by Baldy on 2008-October-11 17:43:34 EDT, SaturdayI recall hearing him on the radio some time ago, when he mixed up two expressions, "That dog don't hunt" and "I don't have a dog in that fight". Obama said "I don't have a dog in that hunt."
Recently, in the 2nd presidential debate (misnamed, because not all of the candidates were invited, and the virtually identical candidates who did show up didn't really debate), Obama said that his opponents claimed that he was "green behind the ears". Really? Green behind the ears? Not "green" or "wet behind the ears", both expressions which mean inexperienced, but "green behind the ears"?
Especially in the first case, it came across to me as a tone deaf attempt to connect to working class voters, but maybe Obama just screws up a lot of metaphors. Has anyone noticed other examples?
