Not really...
Punitive parental manipulation of children has not only the goal to punish, but also the goal to modify future behaviour into what complies with parental wishes.
The analogy would be a Methodic paed who punishes a non-compliant child for their non-compliance at one instance, expecting that at a second instance the same child will comply, having witnessed the punishment that goes with non-compliance.
