Girl wins charity T-shirt design contest
Posted by Dante on 2008-October-17 19:17:34 EDT, FridayEmma has said a lot through her artwork over the years, but her latest creation is drawn to help people fight for their lives.
"When things get hard in life, it doesn't mean you have to stop doing what you like," the fifth-grader said.
"If you keep doing the things you like, then it might make you feel better."
Emma's drawing will be featured on this years' Kids for the Cure T-shirts, which will be handed out to all participants ages 3 to 10 in the Race for the Cure.
"I was speechless when I found out I had won," she said. "I can't believe it. I am so excited."
Emma, 10, got her inspiration for the drawing from her life. She enjoys outdoor activities so she drew one person running, another modeled after her brother on a skateboard and another person modeled after a friend who loves gymnastics.
Emma plays softball, swims, participates in horseback riding and is the secretary of the Student Council Association, as well as a member of the art and science club at her school.
Emma will sign autographs and T-shirts at the race. She also plans to participate in the 50-yard dash.
"I think I will do more contests like this," Emma said. "I love art and I like to know I can help people."
The world needs more LG art. And preferably not hidden away on someone's fridge, but on display for the world to see.
