When you don't fit the mold of what people think you should be, they will tease and laugh and make fun of you in order to try and get you to CONFORM. It also creates social solidarity for them and strengthens their sense of belonging inside their group. Ultimately it is up to you whether you conform to their stupid standards so you can be a part of their little insider group or you can choose to be different and not give a rats ass what any of them think.
