It's a little difficult to work out exactly what his Meacham's "crime" was, but looking at the New York Sex Offender's Registry can give us some hints. For instance:

Conviction Charges:
(Please note: a conviction for an attempt is generally punishable at one grade below the classification of the crime attempted, i.e., a rape 2nd degree is punishable as a class D felony while an attempted rape 2nd degree is punishable as a class E felony.)
Title Section Subsection Class Category Degree Description
PL 130.25 02 E F 3 Rape 3rd: Victim Less Than 17 Years Old, Perpetrator 21 Years Or More

This seems to say he was convicted of Rape in the 3rd degree, which involves victim less than 17, and a perpetrator 21 year old or more. This strongly suggests that this was a statutory rape (not real rape, not forcible rape) charge.

This is further indicated by a further note on that page:

Offense Description:
Actual Sexual Contact

Oh me oh my! Actual Sexual Contact!

That pretty much confirms what I thought. This man was not a rapist at all, except in the eyes of an insane law. And this man already suffered almost 4 years in prison at the hands of the self-righteous bastards. Then this Adrian Porter won't let it rest, and tries to stir up trouble. But even that wasn't enough, Adrian Porter went after Meacham with a machete! ⚠️ ↗ Yes, when Porter's family contends that "Porter threw down the machete when he was challenged in front of a crowd of onlookers", one needn't look far to realize that yes, Porter tried to attack Meacham with a machete! The only thing his family can say in Porter's defense is that "he threw down the machete when his attempted victim's family confronted him". That is not a satisfactory defense. Porter attempted murder, and Meacham's family defended him. That Meacham's family is now in jail awaiting trial is an offense against any notion of justice.

They claim that Porter has brain damage, but it is pretty clear his brain was damaged before the incident. No harm, no foul.
