The sharing structure, simply, is different than in p2p, designed to be more resilient to local downs, and less straining on every peer's resources. To a point it's safer. Obviously, it's also safer than random postings on store+download sites, which are basically an act of faith.

Of course, nothing that implies downloading files from the net and opening them locally is 100% safe.

And of course, I don't recommend downloading models at all, but that's just me.
