It's possible. Though I've actually known an anonymous call play out like this...

Police knock on door. Father answers, no one else in sight.
Cop: Was there a fight here?
Dad: No.
Cop: Okay then.
Police move along, leaving dad even more frustrated than usual...

I'm not being pessimistic, just realistic. I could see a call to the police going either way.
