First off, I love your banner!

Oh, and I don't know if you're a Harry Potter fan but here's a good compromise if you are- I have this HP edition of a game called "Scene It." Very similar to trivial pursuit, but all the questions are asked via a DVD included with it. Lots of clips from the movie series. :] [Though some of the questions are downright impossible for casual fans!]

For board games I think the classics are good to go. There's a reason they've lasted so many years, right? And it seems many of them are being licensed out to fictional characters, which may help pique the interest of a kid. The Star Wars version of Monopoly was a huge seller! And I recently picked up a very keen Transformers chess set. I wanted it only for display but it got me hooked on the game again. And, yeah, there are some special editions of classic games for girlified characters too. :]

Movies I think are a whole different matter. That's more subjective, I think. I mean, I just glanced at a shelf and picked one at random. Toy Story. Awesome, imho! But I could see how some children or adults may not like it. OTOH, there's plenty of adult Sponge Bob fans...
