Yes, it's true that it's hard to see the full person when you only get to speak to them online. However, when you have known that person for several years, you get to know them rather well. Even though they may try to put on a certain face for you at all times, when you talk to them that long, their real persona will often "leak" through the face they want you to see. As for the people on GC that I only know through correspondence, if I have talked to them for years then I think I can make a good general assessment of the type of person that they are. My online Aussie friend has always been there for me and I am honestly convinced that she is a good person, or at least tries hard to be.

And yes, I am fascinated by AG (and Aussie) slang. I know not everything used online is always used offline, but I do watch certain shows on Nickelodeon to see if there are any correlations. During the occasions that I am around an AG in RL I will sometimes ask her if she or her friends use the words that I hear online, and this is one way to learn whether words popular online are also used offline.
