My mother was rather stoic (runs in her family) and a lot of the affection I received as a child was from my father, who tended to wear his emotions on his sleeve a bit more.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not critical of my mother, she showed affection in her own way and had other positive traits which I "inherited" that balances out what I might have lost elsewhere.
