I'm afraid that we are going down the path that Rome went down. Rome at it's pinnacle, loved the sports arena. Whether the citizen's were unintelligent, I don't know, but to be entertained was something highly sought after, as it is today. We are naturally "zoned in" to watch us destroy ourselves for some reason, as it was in Rome's day with Gladiators gladly killing each other, or throwing Christians into a pit with Lions, our counterpart is watching simulations of might and strength like WWE, matches that have blood and cages in them are always popular (even if it isn't real, we still love it) or on the big screen in movies. We are drawn to sporting events of Football, Basketball, Boxing, Baseball, Hockey, and Soccer, while others are focused on motoring events like Nascar (that has that all important wreck action) or Indy racing. The trend over the last few years are reality shows, or "actuality" shows like Cops, the World's Dumbest, the World Most Shocking, and so on showing actual events that end in disaster or sometimes funny disastrous outcomes (like getting hit by a car and surviving it and then tell their story on a show in a humorous way). We love it, we are drawn to it, the ratings and the power of money being made by it is evidence enough.

Take heart Trucker, we are not all morons out here, many of us are very hard working smart people that still much rather read a book, or search the net to learn something new than to watch T.V. and mindlessly zone out for a few hours. I enjoy a good contest of Football every now and then but you can't hardly call me a hardcore fan, I can take it or leave it, don't matter to me. I'm a history junkey, I know more history about my town than some of the paid historians around here, and I've read more books than I care to count on world, and local history. I'm also into Math too, calculus is a fun way to blow your mind, talk about a brain exercise!
