In a marriage, you have two factors:

In marriages of equals, "birds of a feather flock together."

In marriages where one party is psychologically weaker or subservient to the other, you may have a "think and do as my spouse does" effect. You may also have the "my spouse picks the channel the TV is on" and "my spouse picks the newspaper we get" which can have an indirect effect of exposing you to the same ideas, which over time will influence how you think.

With children, there's almost always a "parent chooses the media outlet" effect, at least up to the age where peers and schools start having a strong influence.

With younger children, and to a lesser extent teenagers, there's also the "look up to" factor, where children look up to their parents and adopt their viewpoints without as much independent thought as one would hope. With some teens, there is the opposite phenomenon, where a rebellious teen will adopt contrarian values just to be contrarian, without thinking them through.

The mature teenager, and the very mature preteen or younger child, is willing and able to seek out information from diverse sources and form an opinion independent of his or her parents'.

Of course, too many adult sheeple think as they are told by either their friends, celebrities, or their choice of media (the liberal news elite or Faux News Channel) rather than gathering data and thinking for themselves.
