I know of many women who vote precisely as their husbands or boyfriends do. It may not be a nice thing to say, but I think it's absolutely true. Yes it's true that many vote the same way simply because they are politically aligned with each other and that this was something they had in common that first brought the two of them together. For instance, I doubt I would ever marry a woman who supported McCain. What I am saying is that in cases where women were not particularly knowledgable about or interested in politics they frequently vote for whoever their husband or boyfriend says. I have personally seen this happen. I mentioned this because one of the arguments used against giving women the right to vote all those decades ago was that most or all of them would simply vote as their husbands did (this was in the days when women were much less independent than they are today). Similarly, some people suggest we shouldn't let kids vote because they will simply vote as their parents do. My point is that in both cases, whether or not they are influenced by someone else is beside the point and is NOT a valid reason to deny someone the vote.

But my point was this: nobody with common sense today would suggest that we shouldn't let women vote just because several of them will vote precisely as their husbands or boyfriends will.
