When a kid is introduced to a new group they often get teased, and that can go two ways. If the kid plays along and reacts favorably, they often become quite popular. If the kid tries to defend their honor and becomes defensive, they tend to become unpopular . . . and teased more harshly.
Same thing works with adults.
Remember, it doesn't really matter what they are saying. If they wanted to say really mean things about you, it wouldn't even matter if they only spoke English. They would simply wait until you were not present. So why worry about it? People will think and say what they think and say, and unless they start to actively interfere with your life that is their problem, not yours. If they don't like working with you, that is an issue that they have to deal with. In fact, it is much the same as with the antis that hate us, except that they are actively interfering with our lives, and we will need to take steps to neutralize them.
Of course, it sounds like the guys you work with like you, so that shouldn't be an issue anyway, and of course it is polite to consider the feelings of others so as not to unnecessarily cause them problems - but that said, life is a lot easier when you don't take the mental deficiencies of others and make them your own.
