but when it comes from higher placed politicians or government levels I would tend to say it's deception at its best

I agree, but apparently not everyone does. Even if it is not uncommon for politicians to use those techniques without people's knowledge, it does not make it right in my view. I think that if people knew that hypnotic techniques have been applied on them to influence their vote, they would not approve. A lot of people enjoy the blissful ignorance and aggressively wish to remain asleep by seeing, hearing and talking no evil, but I also think that gradually they will discard the parasitic puppet masters like used underwear.
