...but more to the point, just because the music festival scene is heavily influenced by psychedelics, and secondarily empathogens and pharmacologically-clean disassociatives, does not neccisarily mean that anyone who listens to music must be chemically unconscious all the time.

There is some of a problem in that cultural association. I am probably trying to idealise too much that music be culturally neutral - but meh, I would certainly appreciate it if rap / hip-hop / R&B didn't rely so much on devaluation / objectification of women, for instance. Of course personal actions or behaviours are not determined by what music you listen to, so that even a Jew can enjoy music written by self-confessed anti-Semites, eg. But I will still want to add my comments to cultural associations.
