Hey, people, I just wanted to show off my second new siggie...yet another symbol for the might and eventual freedom of the working class: Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor. Since Thor, the Norse god of thunder, is the protector of the working class and the common person, his hammer is a frequent symbol of socialists/Marxists. The serpent that you see encircling the hammer is a traditional symbol of courage and strength, two attributes that Thor embodies. Even though many Marxists are atheists and do not actually believe that Thor is real they still appreciate the symbol. As this particular Marxist is a Wiccan with a propensity for the Norse I say prayers to Thor every day, so this symbol means a lot to me. I also see Mjolnir, the fabled hammer of Thor, to be emblematic of the GL community striving against all odds to maintain a presence in this world, whether on or off cyberspace, and never backing off from maintaining a stance for freedom of choice and youth liberation, as well as all the youth liberationists, both within and outside of this community, who continue to battle for the freedom of the people we love the most in this world. I wave mighty Mjolnir in honor of our BL brothers as well, who first paved the dangerous political waters and enabled us GLer's to become politically active in the first place. Baldur, thank you for the prompt registration...I was hoping you got a kick out of this siggie since you have an interest in Norse mythology, as your nick attests. And thank you to all of GC for showing me what courage, strength, and perseverance is like; I've become a much better person since my time here. ![]() |
