i think sexual abuse of children is a real thing, not an invention. there is plenty of bullshit spoken about it, but there is an underlying vulnerability that children have to being sexually exploited.

i think you/we need to acknowledge that some of the laws and conventions around children are an attempt to address real risks that they face. i totally agree with everything you say, but i don't think its the whole picture. some attempts to protect children from harm are just that, and while they may not all be affective, i think some of them are. laws against putting children on the streets to work as prostitutes, for example. or up chimneys for that matter.

but for sure, its time there was a more balanced public discussion about all this, less influenced by the repressive ideologies you mention, and more committed to liberal values and positive sexual culture. i guess it comes down to people not being intimidated out of speaking their mind.
