This conflict occured before. There is a brief summary in the article I previously linked to. It seems someone created an article for a more indepth summary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Williams

I haven't read that yet, going to scroll through now. But it seems to share similarities, may be a different location and type of court though...
