I think it depends on the child's personality and needs. They're all different, and a girl who has low self-esteem may need to be put on a pedestal to boost her esteem. If she's frequently picked on or ignored by other kids, then if you single her out for special treatment while ignoring the others it will help her and it will send a message to the other kids that she is a special girl and deserves to be treated better.

On the other hand, I think we have to be careful not to fetishize children or spoil them. You don't treat girls like princesses just because they're girls. They aren't deserving of special treatment for being a little girl, but rather because they're good people with unique qualities that we love. And if they're being naughty we need to correct the behavior, though still treat them with respect and love.
