"Wives who continue to willingly return to the homes of their violent husband obviously find some part of it that helps them"
As for pedophiles and others that are at a disadvantage to a system that enforces social norms, it is hardly isolated to the mental health industry or the government. With the current social beliefs, the reality is that pedophiles must hide and, if disovered, face the consequences of the society and its relevant industries. To mistake the outcome of general sociolization as "diliberate" actions against a minority is misguided.
1) There are no such thing as unintended consequences. If it happens once it is a regrettable mistake or accident. Ever after, ignorance is not an excuse. Therefore, if it happens twice it is deliberate.
2) Have you realised what is the role of the Mental Health Industry?? They define what is and is not normal - in thoughts, in attitudes, in personalities and in behaviours. Unlike politicians, opinion leaders or religious leaders, they are above criticism for their statements regarding normality and abnormality. They define who and what is fit for society and who and what is not. Therefore, they by definition are fulfilling the role of a modern Inquisition deciding what is and is not acceptable for living in society.
Further, they are not subject to the separation of powers or conflict of interest ("judge and party") principles to which we subject public authority. They at the same time decide what is and is not normal AND enforce it AND nominate themselves as judges of compliance, effectively erasing the legislative / executive / judicial distinction. The same persons and groups who say "X is not normal" at the Industry conference, later decide also that "Y is dangerous and must be confined" upon suspicion that Y might be X, and Y has to prove to them that he is not / no longer X... the Mental Health Industry is the most totalitarian institution existing in the West, and instead of working against it, paradoxically, society worships them and gives them more power... power to decide who is and is not worthy of belonging in this society unilaterally, enforcing it unilaterally and stripping of their victim of all procedural rights...
It is NOT accidental their mistreatment of us, nor is it exceptional.
And yes, not all are bad - same as not all Nazis went through once they saw what they were sent to do...
