The Anarchist in me is tempted to point out that most people are willing to criminalize and penalize not the conditions they seek to ameliorate alone, but things found in proximity to and which have been argued lead to those conditions.

Most of us accept to some degree the notion that while a gun is not a murder, you don't have to wait to regulate guns and prosecute unregulated guns.

From there to paraphernalia laws which criminalize the out of context possession of a postal scale or small capsule containers for X-acto knife blades...

And when it comes to what constitutes "criminal speech," whether its incitement or instructions; its already pretty dicey.

But regardless of how you feel about these legal tactics being employed regarding other crimes, its pretty clear that Child Sexual Abuse is not the target here. The target is fantasy; the very notion that there are others whose sexual stimuli aren't shared by the majority.

We don't target violent imaginations unless they're causally linked to a criminal act. And America looks on its past Witchhunts with great disdain. But it hasn't very successfully weeded-out the mentality behind Witchhunts.

Perhaps if fewer of us were willing to allow law-enforcement to attack the circumstances surrounding an alleged criminal act and instead insisted that laws prohibiting an act could only target those perpetrating the act itself, we might not ourselves become the accepted collateral in the latest "War On............"
