This is a love/hate time of year for me. I always sense a new direction I need to go in (or maybe the same direction, but with more effort). But my parents, opinionated souls that they are, want me going in a certain direction as well. Kind of old after 33 years.

I love New Years. Everything does seem new, or novel, or uncharted, or something. It always seems like something profound is around the corner.

1. I ate very well, very responsibly, over my Xmas vacation. And it felt good. And it wasn't nuts and twigs and seeds. It was Multi-Grain Cheerios for breakfast, and maybe a Greek restaurant for dinner, or Chili's, or whatever. Had pizza once, but not much of it at all. Here, I tend to order pizza and subs a lot, and it shows.

2. Grow a thicker skin. I was yelled at for being sarcastic by my father. It hurt. He yells with conviction and assertion. But yet he is smart.

3. Let the past be the past. Don't forget the pain of life, but continue to attempt to learn from it, and from the more joyful or mundane moments in life, too. We all have potential. It behooves us to pick up the pieces and learn. I admit, I still hurt from my rejection by non-pedos on that cold day in December 2007, and the day I revisited the situation in an incorrect way, thus feeling I was sticking my hand in a blazing frying pan. I know Dissident and a few others likely remember my meltdown.

4. Appreciate where I do fit in better. I follow soccer, and am a member of a great little supporters group, and we all frequent a great pub in a great neighborhood of town. I can't spend my whole life there, but like Frasier Crane at Cheers, I do fit in, somehow.
