I think a man's preference for AG's is a combination of physical, emotional, social and (perhaps) spiritual factors. For instance, if you have an emotional pre-disposition for the type of relationship that AG's seem to favor there is a greater chance that their level of pheremones would work their magick on you. Speaking for myself, I think the fact that I'm so much in love with their social world and their great creativity is another reason why their physical attractiveness works on me so effectively. I know you told me that, unlike me, you do not identify as a teen boy emotionally, but it's still possible that your emotional desires are somewhat different from that of the typical man your age, and as a result your physical and emotional preferences tend to converge with each other.

I also believe that AG's glow with a special type of energy when I am around them :) They tend to be less cynical about the world and more idealistic (just like me), very creative (just like I try to be), they perceive life as one big great adventure (much like I do) in addition to the fact that they look so much more attractive than older women do (in my opinion as well as yours). When you combine these things it's no wonder that some men are ephebophiles and would prefer AG's as romantic partners rather than adult women if the law allowed it. Whenever I see one of the nicer AG's being herself it instantly brings a smile to my face and I wish I lived in a world where I would be allowed to interact with her.

But no, I don't think it's all pheremones and estrogen. I think there is a strong emotional and social component to being a true ephebophile (as opposed to an adolescent fetishist, whose interest was entirely sexual), and that glow that you feel whenever you are around a cool AG (or more than one) is a strong indicator that what you feel for them on the inside is every bit as pronounced as the raw physical attraction.
