Would 1 Gbps connection be of any use to me?

I learned today that it would be possible to get a one Gbps connection here - but would it really help me any? I am forced to use Tor (or anonymous proxies in general) anyway. Those anonymous proxies EAT the extra speed anyway (this sentence was to NFiH, who always wants to quarrel with me). Proxies would slow down my connection, and I am afraid I would not benefit much from this upgrade to the faster connection. It will be a different thing when all proxies are very fast.
