I remember as a kid I carried a pocket knife with me frequently.Back then it was something boys did. At one time I even had one of the knives with every on it. A spoon, fork, dinner knife, screwdriver, etc etc.. I had it because I was in the Cub Scouts. Nobody thought twice about it. Even the teachers knew we had them and they didn't care, no lecture,no stern looks, nothing. If there was a problem the school dealt with it in a reasonable fashion. Back then if the teacher caught you with something they would just take it away and return it to you at the end of the day. Most likely your parents wouldn't even be informed. Now I grew up in a small town so it probably was different but I don't recall cops ever being called to the school to handle anything. Times were different and in many ways much better.

We didn't carry knives for protection, or to do violence or harm others. Now as you said "A kid doing that today could in the worst case be arrested, suspended for the rest of the year, and charged with a "terroristic act" by homeland security." Which is down right scary. We don't need a society like this.

Something went terribly wrong with society,it's silly rules are getting out of hand. The police are used way to much to handle little problems which previous generations handled the old fashion way. In my day the girl who was hand cuffed for doodling would have been told to clean the desk off and that would've been it.
