I rarely come here any more, because it makes me too unhappy to read all of the bad news. Today is no exception.

I am very sorry to hear of Bill Evans's death. I don't remember ever having any direct communication with him, but I know that I enjoyed reading his contributions.

It was nice to know that, regardless of the fact that he personally preferred boys, he supported equal opportunities for children: "If a girl wants to have such a relationship with an older man, why shouldn't she? Why should under the legal AoC sexual liberation only apply to boys? Is that not seriously chauvenistic?"1

It was also nice to know that he gave financial support to Dylan Thomas, the former webmaster of BoyChat (and an exceptionally intelligent and inspiring writer), during the last 12 months before the latter's unfortunate incarceration2 for "sexual assault" and "possession of child pornography".

I know that he was mightily pissed off by Dylan Thomas's decision to give a guilty plea - calling him a "wuss", and so on - and I can't help wondering if the capitulation of such a major player in the CL community might have lessened any fight that he had left in him to stay alive. He said on BC, "The prosecution had no case yet he still caved in with a guilty plea. As long as BL's continue to do this, nothing will change. Makes me glad I'm dying."3

A very sad thing to read. But I don't think that either man's life was lived in vain. The heartfelt and eloquent contributions of both to the CL message boards must surely have inspired many more CLers into doing something about our current condition of oppression. Let us hope that for every CLer that falls, another ten are steeling themselves to take their place! And let us hope that each new generation will take heed from the examples of those who have gone before them, and will be even more determined to fight to improve our situation, so that those who come after can have happier endings to their life stories.
