Leighton was a Victorian master artist, equally proficient in illustration, painting and sculpture, although his sculptural output was slim--only three were produced in his life, the last of which was the gorgeous and charming "Needless Alarms," a portrait of a nude young girl, aged 11 or 12, shying away from the frog at her feet. It's a magnificent example of the Victorian attitude toward the child--invested with a fantasial innocence that overlooks the very real sexuality of the young girl subject. Many smaller replicas were produced for Victorian homes, and if you can get your hands on one they're worth a pretty penny. Anyway, you can currently view the sculpture from five different angles at the Art & Architecture ⚠️ ↗ website. Just type "Needless Alarms" into the site's search engine. Enjoy!
