There is something definitely weird there. If I were in your shoes, I'd stay as far away from her as is humanly possible--the same goes for her extended family. The wrong word in the right ear could start a witch-hunt.

It doesn't matter why she said what she said, this kid is trouble and should be avoided at all costs.

There was a case in the UK within the last year, where an elderly man and his wife befriended a pair of young girls; they liked the man's dog, and asked to walk the dog. The couple grew somewhat friendly with the girls. Some months afterward, one of the girls asked to stay overnight at the man's house, and he refused.

Later on, the girls made up an accusation that he had made sexual advances towards them. Despite a police investigation (which yielded no evidence of wrong-doing) the neighborhood turned against the man and his wife, and their home and property were repeatedly vandalized, e.g. by having bricks thrown through their windows.

Despite pleas from the police to leave the man alone, the harassment continued, and as a result of the stress, he eventually had a stroke, which killed him. If he had ignored these kids, instead of befriending them, he would be alive today.
