With all the focus on Tim Burton's take on Alice in Wonderland, you'd think there would be more articles about the source material and its author, but the media seems to be shying away from discussing Lewis Carroll or his famous book. But Annalee Newitz over at io9 did give us a nice meditation on the book's connections to the sci-fi subgenre of steampunk ⚠️ ↗. Newitz clearly admires the book and understands its vaunted place in the history of speculative fiction.

No one in the movie has any actual superpowers, which is what makes some think we are now in a post-superhero phase. As for me, I think there'll be plenty of superheroes in cinema for years to come.

It looks like Fox won the film rights to Incarceron ⚠️ ↗, a speculative young adult novel in which an entire subset of the human population grows up in a giant secret prison. Sounds like it might have something to say about the growing prison population in our own country and its connection to the ever-widening rift in the upper and lower classes.
