The picture isn't pro-war. It simply depicts how a group of soldiers ( regular flawed people; all,) survive from day to day.

One of the greatest directors Hollywood ever produced was WWI pilot ( Wild ) Bill Wellman. He got the first Best-Film Oscar ever for Wings as well as directing The Public Enemy, A Star Is Born and The Ox Bow Incident. William Wellman ⚠️ ↗ made quite a few war pictures. But he knew what only a soldier knows; that the goal isn't heroism, its making it through to the end of the day.

Hurt Locker isn't pro-war, or anti-war. Its just about a bunch of guys trying, each in their own way, to make it to the next day.

Needless to say Katherine Bigelow deserved her Oscar as well. Near Dark was one of the most unique vampire flicks ever early in her career. And she's done so much since.

I was disappointed that Jeremy Renner didn't pick up an Oscar as well for his work in Hurt Locker. Maybe he needs to go back to playing the romantic lead ⚠️ ↗ to another 12 year old girl :)
