Yes, thujone is the active ingredient, found in wormwood. Thujone is to wormwood what THC is to marijuana. And yes, I've already bought European absinthe (several kinds) and there's no way to sense it, because the high alcohol content gets to you long before the thujone. That's why it's so ridiculous that the US still bothers to outlaw absinthe. The law was enacted out of hype. And like most laws, once they are on the books it's nearly impossible to get them removed. However, it's pretty easy to import absinthe. It's just very naughty to do so.
