Valida Davila

Valida Davila, likely a pseudonym, was an American woman born in 1900.

In 1971 she founded the Childhood Sensuality Circle (CSC) with members from around the world. It published its own newsletter. At its height the organization was said to have around 10.000 members. Beside being a child's rights activist, she was also involved with animals rights, environmental protection, health food and the rights of the elderly. She belonged to a rare type of American: educated, open-minded, liberal, knowledgeable of the world and tolerant of sexuality.

She was one of champions of the first American nudist beach called Black's Nude Beach near her home in San Diego in California. The beach was later closed because of a moral outcry, but still exists (Google it). She conducted a correspondence with people around the world who shared her views, and worked incessantly to influence politicians and people in key positions within the juridical and health care systems.

In June 1984, based on an unfounded suspicion, the police conducted a search of the premises of the organization (Valida Davila's home), confiscating an archive of correspondence, a considerable collection of scientific documents, the entire library and above all the membership list of the CSC, which was held to be 'an international sex-ring of child molesters'. In February 1985 the prosecutor dismissed the case after having considered the evidence insufficient for prosecution. Valida Davila suffered so much, however, from the financial costs of the lawyers and her health (she was then 85 years old) that she was not in a position to rebuild the organization. It is believed that the CSC was dissolved in 1987.

She died in 1995.

This is the CSC "Child's Sexual Bill of Rights" drafted by her:

1. Legal Protection Every child shall be legally protected in his sexual rights regardless of age or status as a legal minor.

2. Child's right to his own person Every child has the right to privacy for his own personal thoughts, ideas, dreams, and exploration of his own body without any kind of adult interference, directly or indirectly expressed.

3. Sex information Every child has the right to accurate sex information and to be protected from sex misinformation as soon as he is able to understand this information in simple terms.

4. Emotional growth Each child has the right to grow mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually as a free, uncrippled happy person in security so he will be tolerant and appreciative of other individuals and their sexuality.

5. Sensual pleasures Each child has the right to fully enjoy the sensual pleasures he may feel without shame or guilt.

6. Learning the art of love All children have the right to learn the art of love beginning at any age he is able to understand, just as he is entitled to learn any other art or skill.

7. Choice of a sex partner Every child has the right to loving relationships, including sexual, with a parent, sibling, or other responsible adult or child, and shall be protected and aided in doing so by being provided with contraceptives and aids to prevent venereal disease.

8. Protection from sexual suppression Each child has the right to be protected from any form of sex suppression at home or in society so that in adulthood he will be capable of living his sex life according to his natural desires and not according to the dictates of tradition.
